Oritoke Okeowo, Ph.D., Ph.D.
About
Dr. Oritoke Okeowo, Ph.D is a passionate educator and neuroscientist. She obtained her Ph.D. in Basic Medical Sciences from the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the University of Ibadan in 2021. She also holds an M.Sc. in Pharmacology (Neuropharmacology) from the University of Ibadan (2014) and a B.Sc. in Pharmacology from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye. She is currently a lecturer in the Department of Physiology, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA). Her research interest is in behavioral neuroscience and the pharmacotherapy of stress and depression. She is a recipient of several research and travel grants from national and international organizations such as IBRO, ISN, ICGEB, and TETFund, and has been a research fellow at the European Centre for Brain Research, Rome, Italy; Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, USA; and Achucarro Basque Center for Neuroscience, Leioa, Spain. She has published over twenty publications in reputable journals. She is also a member, an alumnus, and an ambassador of several professional organizations. Beyond research, she is passionate about community engagement, where she focuses on mental health and female-in-STEM advocacy. She is a 2022 Mandela Washington Fellow, a 2022 Alternate Candidate for the TechWomen Emerging Leaders, and a 2023 Global Art in Medicine Fellow. She was awarded the 2022 Olubola Award of Excellence and the AIESEC Akure 2022 Champions and Partners Award for her contributions to the lives of youths and community development. She currently serves as Staff Advisor for AIESEC-in-Akure, Lead Consultant at Thrive Minds Hub, Associate Program Officer at Kids & Teens Resource Centre (Akure), and volunteers in different capacities for other organizations.
