About

Dr. Philip A. Adeniyi is a passionate neuroscientist, educator, and mentor dedicated to empowering the next generation of scientific leaders across Africa. Driven by a deep commitment to bridging the mentorship and opportunity gap facing young and emerging researchers—particularly women in STEM—he founded Africa Young Scientists (AYS), a platform built to inspire, connect, and equip aspiring scientists for global impact. What began in 2014 as a small mentorship initiative evolved into an international mentorship platform in 2019 and has since grown into a vibrant network fostering collaboration, innovation, and professional development. Through AYS, Dr. Adeniyi has created an inclusive community that connects young scientists with mentorship, research opportunities, academic resources, and international networks. In August 2026, Dr. Adeniyi established the BRAIV Lab (Brain Aging and Vascular Biology Laboratory) at University of Michigan–Flint, where his research focuses on understanding how aging-associated changes in glial and vascular biology contribute to neurodegeneration and cognitive decline. His work integrates neuroscience, aging biology, and translational research to uncover mechanisms driving disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia. Guided by the belief that talent is universal, but opportunities are not, Dr. Adeniyi envisions a future where African scientists are fully equipped to lead groundbreaking discoveries and provide transformative solutions to global challenges. Under his leadership, AYS continues to nurture excellence, promote scientific inclusivity, and cultivate a sustainable pipeline of innovative African researchers and changemakers.
